Sales jobs in Alaska are relatively few in comparison to other states, due mostly to the state's low population number (under 700,000 residents). However, there are still a number of opportunities for talented salespersons living in the sparsely-populated state, both in the main cities of Anchorage and Juneau and elsewhere throughout the large geographic region that is Alaska. Positions range from basic and entry-level positions like cashier jobs, auto sales, cosmetic sales and construction sales jobs to sales positions in real estate, finance, fashion, retail, B2B and a host of others. Because Alaska's economy is dominated by the extraction of natural resources, and especially oil, energy sales jobs and industrial sales jobs are especially prevalent. The state also features a robust seafood harvesting industry, meaning that sales positions in that field are generally popular in the state. Perhaps because of Alaska's lack of proximity to the rest of the U.S. states, and its relatively small population, work from home sales jobs in Alaska are very popular as well, with many computer-literate individuals engaging in Internet and online sales jobs that offer either part-time or full-time opportunities. Agriculture in the state is primarily for purposes of consumption within Alaska, though local sales jobs are offered by farming operations and the primary agricultural products produced in Alaska include nursery stock, various vegetables, livestock and dairy products. At the same time, the transportation needs of Alaskans dictate an industry unto itself, so that positions in transportation and tourism are growing fields in the vast region. Some leaving Alaska may seek sales jobs in Sacramento, California, for example, as a means of furthering their careers in sales.
